What?

stencil start previews the selected channel's primary site URL. For headless channels such as Catalyst, that URL is the headless frontend. The channel's Stencil storefront (and checkout) lives at the canonical URL instead, so the version check 404s and the CLI reports that the store doesn't exist.

  • getStoreChannels now attaches each channel's platform to its site entry. stencil start uses the site's canonical URL when the platform isn't bigcommerce, and falls back to url when there's no canonical entry.
  • Stencil channels are unchanged. If the token lacks the channels scope, platform is unknown and the CLI keeps the old behaviour.
  • The version check error now prints the requested URL and, on a 404, suggests --channelUrl.

Needs verification against a real Catalyst channel: that the canonical host serves the full preview (not only checkout), and that headless channels report a platform other than bigcommerce. --channelUrl <canonical url> remains the workaround in the meantime.

stencil start previewed the site's primary URL for the selected channel.
For headless channels such as Catalyst, the primary URL is the headless
frontend, which does not serve /stencil-version-check, so the CLI failed
with a misleading "store does not exist" 404.

Use the site's canonical URL for channels whose platform is not
bigcommerce, which is where their Stencil storefront (and checkout) is
served. Stencil channels keep using the primary URL.

The version check error now also shows the requested URL and, on a 404,
suggests --channelUrl.
