Closes #2123.
#2123 has been open since June, with seven projects nominated in the thread so far. This PR turns the discussion into a concrete change, so there is something specific to accept, trim, or close.
What it adds: a short "Related Projects" section just above Contributing, with the seven nominated projects in three groups (apps, workflows and integrations, forks and compatible implementations). Each one gets a single neutral line. The section says the projects are maintained by their authors, are not endorsed by Microsoft, and that plugins stay under the
#markitdown-plugintopic.Why here: the "What to Contribute" section already says apps, services and GUIs belong outside this repo, and that you would "rather see them thrive than be turned away." This section gives those outside projects somewhere to be found, so they don't keep turning up as PRs.
Checked: every link resolves. Each GitHub project is public, MIT-licensed and updated within the last two months. docling.rs is described as API-compatible rather than built on MarkItDown, as its maintainer asked in the thread. This is a docs-only change.
Full disclosure: claude-markitdown-hook is my project. I'm happy to cut the list down, drop the grouping, or move the section somewhere else if you'd prefer.
