Adds agent support: a build contract and a HIL contract, run by agentrc's shared arduino skill (hathach/agentrc#397).
A dev PC loads the installed agentrc (${AGENTRC_DIR:-$HOME/.claude}), never fetching it; only CI fetches the commit test/hil/agentrc.json pins.
check_build.py builds the examples on CI's matrix with ci-arduino's FQBNs and selects boards from a diff by flash
transport. Its rig boards are metro_m4_express (SAMD51 QSPI) and raspberry_pi_pico (the RP2040 core's 1 MiB FS
region).
Two dedicated HIL sketches report over USB CDC, one reply line per command, tied to the host's nonce:
test/hil/spiflash_region erases, writes and verifies only the roster's region. It writes a nonce-seeded pattern,
split at byte 300 on QSPI. It refuses malformed, misaligned, empty and out-of-window requests, and drops an overlong
line, before any flash operation. It leaves the region erased.
test/hil/spiflash_restore has no erase or write command. It is the board's resting firmware and checks that the
region reads back erased.
The roster test/hil/ci.json names the region on each rig board: the last 4 KiB sector of the Metro M4's QSPI chip
(within the top 64 KiB), and of the Pico's FS window. On the Pico, the record checks that the linker script, the
ELF's _FS_start/_FS_end, the board span and the roster region agree.
Rig boards name their "probe"; the flasher comes from agentrc's board registry, and the roster name is the
registry name and the board's lock.
The battery (spiflash-3924e42-1) passes on both boards: each ran its region, refused six bad requests and an
overlong RUN, and its cleanup read the region back erased.
Contract tests pass against the installed agentrc and, with CI=true, against the fetched pin.
Earlier, at 7ff1984: with a held Adafruit_TinyUSB_Arduino session on metro_m4_express, this battery reported the
board locked, not run and untouched (spif-lock-7); the reverse direction (tua-lock-6) was refused the same way.
Limits:
Fruit Jam, ESP32 and external SPI flash build only; no farm board covers them.
The GD25Q16 and W25Q16JV datasheets were not available, so the 4 KiB erase unit rests on the library's SFLASH_SECTOR_SIZE and the run's readback.
pre-commit fails in its doxygen step on undocumented src/ members this PR does not touch; #195 documents them.
[Medium impact] The reviewed changes appear safe to merge.
Summary
Adds build and hardware-test contracts backed by agentrc’s shared Arduino scripts.
Build checks pick boards and sketches based on the files that changed.
Hardware tests check a reserved flash region and leave it erased.
HIL runs use the right shared agentrc files on each host.

Walkthrough
This change adds tooling and documentation for selecting and validating agentrc, building supported SPIFlash boards, and running SPIFlash hardware-in-the-loop checks. It also adds board configurations, HIL sketches and tests, repository guidance, and CodeRabbit settings.

Layer / File(s)
Summary
Agentrc source selection and validation .claude/skills/hil-contract/scripts/agentrc_pin.py, .claude/test/test_agentrc_pin.py, test/hil/agentrc.json
Adds staged, pinned CI, and installed source selection. Validates agentrc identity and required files. Tests cover source selection, loading, and CI-only cache fetching.
Adds the SPIFlash board profile and RP2040 filesystem-window checks. Documents and tests build selection and record validation. Adds a contract-test pre-commit hook and ignore rules.
HIL board configuration and sketches .claude/skills/hil-contract/SKILL.md, test/hil/*.json, test/hil/spiflash_region/*, test/hil/spiflash_restore/*
Defines HIL board storage regions and execution and recovery rules. Adds a region test sketch with check, write, and erase commands, and a read-only sketch that checks whether a region is erased.
Host HIL profile and remote runner .claude/skills/hil-contract/scripts/hil_test.py, .claude/skills/hil-contract/scripts/hil_remote.py, .claude/test/test_hil.py, .claude/test/test_hil_remote.py
Adds roster validation and nonce-matched serial checks for region operations and restoration. Adds a remote-runner wrapper and tests for the HIL profile and wrapper.
Repository guidance CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, .agents
Documents build and HIL procedures, supported transports, and PR follow-up rules. Agent-facing paths link to the repository guidance.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Restrict writes to each board’s authorized sector.
check_board accepts offset=0 and length=4096 for a Pico roster because that region is aligned and inside the window. test_region then sends RUN, which erases the selected sector. The contract authorizes only the Pico’s last sector, 0xff000, and the Metro M4’s last sector, 0x1ff000. Enforce those board-specific regions before admitting a roster. As per coding guidelines: “Never widen a region or add a board’s storage without that decision for the board.” (raw.githubusercontent.com)

use the script’s existing erase operation rather than introducing a new API.

The region is roster data, not code. .claude/skills/hil-contract/SKILL.md:44-47 makes each board's storage entry the record of the maintainer's decision, and "never widen a region" governs edits to that roster.
test/hil/ci.json and test/hil/local.example.json hold exactly offset 2093056 (0x1ff000) and 1044480 (0xff000) with length 4096. test/hil/*.json is a protected path, kept out of automated fixes.
check_board (hil_test.py:56-71) checks what code can check for any board: whole 4096-byte sectors inside the transport window. Hardcoding board names and offsets would duplicate the roster, and every new board's decision would then need a code change.

pin() let FileNotFoundError, JSONDecodeError, KeyError and TypeError escape, so check_build.py,
agentrc_pin.py, hil_test.py and hil_remote.py ended in a traceback instead of the JSON error line
and exit 2. pin() now validates the url and the 40-hex commit before any cache or fetch use.
